Jthamuschoir08- That's called a vertical end pin. They are very useful because they stick into the ground very well, and so, they hardly ever slide, as compared to a regular end pin.

I saw the often overlooked Lynn Harrell perform this live and it was positively mouthwatering but i dont see his rendition on youtube (there is concerto #2). Quite honestly im not a big fan of this piece and after having agonized thru learning it as a child would probably not take the time to compare. So yeah...Du Pre! :)

I have not found an interpretation rivaling Du Pre's yet. Maisky's is interesting, Rostropovich's is simply not sensitive enough to the give and take of this piece, but his portamenti are quite tasteful. Anyone have any recommendations?
