Great version. In my opinion this song is about a brothel and therefore has to be sung by a woman. But like any good song there are more interpretations possible.

When I was a toddler, my father would sing this to me. I'm from Kentucky where everyone knows this song. Not only the words are beautiful, but the voice of this woman is a great one. I can see that you're probably a teenager that listens to autotuned music constantly. Let me give you advice. Go to Justin Bieber's page and go "ra ra ra" and stay away from this music.

FACTS!!!! The house of the rising sun is like ScarletMinx said a traditional folk song from the US. parts of the lyrics are rumoured to come from the 18th century and parts of the melody even based on English folk from the 17th century. although it has gotten most fame through The Animals, the first recording had been done by Texas Alexander. other know artists to play the song are Bob Dylan, Nina Simone and Frijid Pink. dispute this and you are a simple fool

Joan Baez versión is previous than Burdon's, I think. And it's great; actually, both are great. But I like the best Nina Simone's. And Sinead's are absolutely incredible. Every single one of those have their own special touch.
